New Dedicated Passenger Elevator

This project was to install a new passenger elevator in the historic Charles Chamberlain Federal Building located in Lansing, Michigan.  The original two-story structure was constructed in the 1930s. An addition was added to the facility in the 1960s.  The project was solicited as a Design/Build project when the U.S. Courts decided to move forward with the new hydraulic elevator. The new work included making improvements to the hoistway where the building infrastructure had been located inside of it and creating the appropriate fire separation rating. The design was detailed to minimize the impact of new elevator openings on the stone and the finishes of the elevator cab were designed at an appropriate executive level but with a careful understanding of the weight on the performance of the elevator. The finish also needed to complement the existing finishes of the public corridor to fulfill the client's program and image.
